当地居民大多都很了解在厦门出行的最佳方式。很多外国人初来乍到，对厦门的交通状况不甚了解，往往会选择向当地人求助。一谈及厦门的交通系统，大家都会想到“四桥一隧”，其实没那么简单。

那么，作为一个热心市民，我们应该如何向外国朋友介绍厦门的主要出行工具，比如公交、BRT和在建的地铁呢？不妨一起来看看下面这段情景对话。 

A：打扰一下，请问去轮渡怎么走？

B：坐BRT1号线到终点站，在那儿你可以找到轮渡。

A：什么是BRT？

B：BRT是快速公交系统的简称，它提供城市快速公交服务，大部分的行车路段都设在高架上。

A：厦门有几条BRT路线？

B：现在共有7路。

A：厦门的交通情况怎么样？

B：厦门有“四桥一隧”，它连接了厦门岛和其他四个辖区。

A：“四桥一隧”通往哪里呢？

B：通往厦门的岛外地区：海沧、集美、同安和翔安。

A：真不错！但有时坐公交遇上交通堵塞，让我无法及时到达市中心。

B：早上和下午的高峰时段交通堵车很常见。

A：我觉得应该采取一些措施。

B：道路越多交通量也越大，好消息是今年九月厦门的地铁就会试运行了。

A：真的吗？

B：是的，目前有五条地铁线路正在建设。

A：太好啦。 

Getting around Xiamen

As locals, we have valuable information about how to best get from A to B in Xiamen. Since this will be many of our foreign guests’ first time visiting our city, they will likely be dependent on advice from locals on how to get around as painlessly as possible. 

While the city’s transportation system is often compactly described as “four bridges and a tunnel,” things aren’t quite so simple. As friendly and welcoming hosts, how can we best give our guests a helpful introduction to getting around Xiamen, covering our buses, the BRT, and even the new subway currently under construction? Let’s find out together with help from the following dialogue.

A: Excuse me, how do I get to ferry?   

B: Take the BRT line one to the terminal station. You should be able to find the ferry from there.

A: What's the BRT?

B：BRT is short for Bus Rapid Transit. It's the city's express bus service and most of the path is elevated above the surface street.

A：How many BRT lines are there in Xiamen?

B: There are a total of seven routes.

A: So what's traffic generally like in Xiamen?

B: Well, there are four bridges and a tunnel connecting the island of Xiamen to the city's four mainland districts.

A: Where do all the bridges and tunnels lead?

B: They connect to Xiamen's mainland districts: Haicang, Jimei, Tong'an and Xiang'an.

A: That's nice, but if I take a bus this traffic jam is not helping me get to the downtown area.

B: Traffic jams are par for the course during morning and afternoon rush hour.

A: I wish they'd do something about it.

B: More roads just mean more traffic but the good news is that the city's subway system opens in September.

A: Really？

B: Yes. There are five lines under construction now.

A: Thank goodness.
