It was only March when I began working for Sunshine Home as a caregiver. From the start I knew well how important my responsibilities were. I still remember my first day. As this completely new person entering their lives, the children were at first uncomfortable around me, avoiding me no matter how big my smile was. It made worry that I wouldn’t be able to adequately take care of them.
I realized that my first task was to win the children over. Coming back home after my first day, I tried to figure out how I could help these children learn to trust me. I decided to try something simple, but which turned out to be effective: a cute haircut! I came to class the next day with straight bangs and I could tell that the children were less intimidated by me than the day before. They wanted to talk to me! I was so happy.
Yet, even with this step forward, I still often worried about failing to take good care of them. Thankfully, Lead teachers and co-teachers were there to help me through this beginning period, giving me warmth and wisdom. Gradually I became more and more familiar with the children and, in turn, more confident with my work. A single word or even just a smile from one of them will melt my heart!
Thank you so much, lovely children! It is you, most of all, who inspires me to make great progress. I’m so thankful for the joy and gratitude I receive from you. I will continue to work hard to give you the best care possible.
